sigh...

it's been once again, a very long time since my last post... and unfortunately my reason for posting once more isn't so much a happy one...

My mom called me today to tell me that our dog Jaina is going to have to be put down this afternoon... She was diagnosed with kidney failure a week or so ago, and has been hanging on til now...

We were hoping that she would make it til Christmas so that my sister and I could be home to give our goodbyes, but it isn't meant to be... ;_;

Goodbye Jaina, you were a good dog, and I am very glad we rescued you from the shelter all those years ago...

Ah broomball... the greatest opportunity to spend some time with friends and watch people be really foolish as they discover the inherent properties of ice.

Considering my high propensity for injury, I just come prepared and then install myself as the goalie... There's nothing quite like the looks on peoples' faces when a little asian girl walks onto the ice with giant hockey gloves... hehe... That and I was wearing my hockey shin guards under my wide-leg jeans, so you couldn't really tell they were there...

I'm not exactly sure how I manage it, but every time that I've played broomball as the goalie, I end up facing a team that has a couple guys that are a bit more organized than everyone and figure out how to work together... I had to watch for passes for crying out loud! The last time I played as goalie, I didn't actually bring my leg guards, and I was much more tentative... not so last night, I was dropping on the ice every time the ball came near... There is something nice about having random people you've never met before cheer when you make a save. There were many instances in which I was the only reason the ball wasn't in the goal. Almost had a shutout too, but there was a shot which apparently I blocked but then it bounced somehow to hit one of the posts and then go in.... or something like that. I have no idea how it happened, I just remember dropping to block the shot, feeling it hit me and then it was in the goal while I was thinking 'wtf?'

Eh, I suppose it was good for the other team to score though so that we went out tied. All in all a good bit of fun. I still maintain that a good 50% of the fun of broomball for me is watching people mismanage their momentum... the other 50% is pretending that I play goalie. One guy asked me if I normally play goalie... and i got to laugh and say 'no, i'm normally a forward' hehe...

Things are fairly 'normal' with work, dance, hockey, and the interestingness that is my social life.

Last Friday thomas and I competed at the San Diego Dancesport Championships... kind of small for an NDCA competition, but was a good experience nonetheless... Had I remembered it, I might have convinced thomas to go compete at the Southwest Regionals up in San Jose. oops. Anyway, we got second place out of three couples, the first place couple was leaving Saturday morning to go to regionals too. o_o

'Sprummer' league of hockey started sunday... am very glad I played in the exhibition game last week, cuz man would I be sore if I hadn't... The only downside being I kind of pulled the slightly pulled muscle I had gotten on friday from dance the rest of the way such that the pain/tightness extended from just below my hip to the bottom part of my rib cage. It's a really weird feeling... but will heal soon enough... they always do... well, mostly anyway.

It's strange how time passes so slowly and yet quickly at the same time.
